[Let the record show: Emil and any kind of paperwork have never gotten along swimmingly. He barely scraped through school and has a personal vendetta against reading for work, so this? This is honestly his worst idea to date, letting himself get roped into reading for work!!! for this Loren person. What's in it for him, he mumbles mostly to himself, but he's still doing it.shock it 2 me
Like, not very well. But he's sitting behind a messy stack of papers, now mumbling mostly to himself about how "sort by severity" is completely subjective? For example, he has no vested interest in the rippling effects of recent upheavals on local businesses, but apparently a lot of people do! Wow! Amazing!
For the third time in an hour, he sighs loudly. Hi, you're here, so please give his woes your attention.]
This is dreadful. Does he really read all of these when no one else is here?
[Who READS??]
[The only reason Emil is even trying to help with the livestock problem is because... well. Honestly, it's because the thought of sad farm animals made him deeply upset and he was compelled to come help. What this means for the job, however, is that an overly-emotional tiny dude has become attached to at least one farm animal (like, a cute baby goat, probably) in between complaining about how the animals seem to want to follow him around and chew on various bits of his clothing.stylish yet irresponsible use of stipend
And then, tragedy of tragedies, his favorite baby goat goes missing and he is deeply distraught. Now, at last, he is inspired to take action.
Of course, he's terrible at Craft, so his misguided attempts to do anything resembling an electric fence keep ending with him giving himself a huge dose of static electricity. Is nothing easy?]
[Or: who blew their whole stipend on clothes instead of budgeting for food? This guy. On the one hand, he can dress like a local on a whim now! That's exciting! The clothes aren't incredibly great, but they're not terrible. He's managing.misc
He's also incredibly hungry, which is starting to get embarrassing hours and hours after breakfast. Please feed him, or at least humor him when he very abruptly begins a Casual Conversation (hint: he's bad at this one):]
How do people get jobs here? Just wondering.
[hello what do you want to do? i'm probably on board with it. you can send me a pm or pp tojojoveller with ideas or just tag wildly!! dark knights is the only job emil won't do... and for my own sake i'd like to limit job threads to 2 per job so i can handle them!! thank you
feel free to find him being terrible at magic practice or whining about morning training, etc, i am really open.]

it's a long trek but, to daylight, it isn't that long. given his height and long legs, this is a breeze for him. plus he has his experience in scouting and travelling for long periods of time so he knows he can do it.
but at some - okay, many - points during the walk, daylight is going to now and then offer to pick up emil and carry him if he wanted to. just because he can do this walk with these, doesn't mean that others are able to do the same. it's something he needs to keep in mind now that he's around more humans than mehcanoids. ]
Oh... [ he stops in his tracks and notes they're at the entrance of the forest. ] Did you hear that, Emil?
I think I heard- [ let him reset his audials, to be sure that he heard that sound and it wasn't a figment of his imagination.
it wasn't. it's really- ] -bleating. I think that's a sheep bleating. A baby, maybe...

Ugh. He's sweating, Daylight!! Pity him.]
A— really? A baby... you mean a lamb?
[Vocabulary aside, a baby animal!! He's not reenergized, as such, but he's more determined to actually stay out here and look for a sweet baby animal that is crying somewhere. His gooey heart, it breaks...]
I can barely hear anything. Use your super hearing and find it!

when that angle doesn't seem to work, he tries to go with the 'always stay positive' route now that there's a lead for them to follow. ]
Yeah! It's a lamb! I'm sure of it.
[ resetting his audials, daylight tries to pinpoint the noise and thinks he hears it coming from... over there!
he quickly walks towards the shrubbery, whistling in hopes of getting the lamb's attention. it sure works, but not in the way daylight would like for it to work - the lamb, though unseen, begins to bleat even more loudly. and it doesn't sound like it's happy. ]
... I don't think they likes me.
[ which is, well, understandable due to his height and appearance and everything. ]
Give me a hand?
no subject
[He's not surprised the lambs are afraid of the giant metal boy? But he doesn't know how to say that politely, so. He shuffles forward, hand cupped by his ear to try and determine which direction the bleating is coming from.]
I'll do it, you stay over here. Be ready to grab it if it runs, I guess?
[Shuffling... gently... He is a tiny, soft boy with light footsteps and a gentle voice, which he pitches quietly to talk to this sheep like it's an actual human baby.]
Hellooo? Come here, we're not going to hurt you! We want to take you home! Um, where your dad is...?
[The sheep dad? Do lambs have family units because that's how he assumes animals work. Where the heck is this sheep!!]

the little animal pauses when they notice daylight is still nearby and they back into the shrubbery once more. not quite retreating but clearly interested in doing that, if they feel threatened enough to do so.
then daylight speaks up, trying to keep his own voice whisper quiet. he can be dense sometimes but he can see the animal is nervous. ]
Are they there, Emil? Need me to flush them out?
[ daylight no- ]

[He will handle this terrified baby without a bigger, metal baby scaring it away completely. He gestures pointedly for Daylight to back up a yard or two, thank you, before he turns his attention back to the animal. It's still frightened, but of these two terrifying bipedal things coming at it, Emil is much less threatening? He too is small and soft and close to the ground, so.
Give him a few minutes to murmur comforting nonsense at this lamb before it hobbles cautiously towards him and he can carefully scoop it up in his arms. Lambs weigh, like, nothing? He can carry several tiny children at once, so this is nothing. Finally, Emil contributes...
Anyway, he's back now, tiny cargo and all.]
She's hurt! [He has no idea what the sex of this animal is but NEVER MIND!!] We have to go quickly!
no subject
but he soon hears what emil is telling him and he soon sees the extent of injuries the lamb has when he raises the lantern to get a better look at them. from his experience back on the farms of dust tumbles, he can tell the lamb is dehydrated and malnourished and a whole host of other things.
so when emil tells him that they've got to, daylight is going. ]
Sure! I'll go get the farmer! Make sure she's comfortable, okay?
[ daylight is glad his height and size because he's off in a flash, hurrying back to where he thinks he last saw the farmer they were helping out.
by the time emil catches up with them, the harried yet happy farmer is running over with a kit and daylight is leading them along.
the pair seem to be having a conversation of sorts, with daylight explaining what he thinks is wrong with the lamb. the farmer seems surprised by daylight's knowledge but relieved too, since it means they can treat their missing animal more quickly now that they have an idea of what's wrong. ]
Emil! Emil! Are they still awake?
no subject
[Yeah, that seems like the only option left to him here. He hustles along as best he can, occasionally murmuring little comforting things to his new baby on the way, but he's more than willing to hand the lamb over as soon as he catches up to Daylight and the farmer. For this sweet little baby's sake, you see.]
Yes! Here— you have to fix her!
[And with that he holds the lamb out insistenly to the farmer. Fix this!!!]
no subject
sensing that the farmer will want some space to themselves, daylight begins to shuffle away. he sliiiides back to emil, trying to stay quiet and discreet as possible.
given that he's a ten feet tall hybrid with a red-and-gold paintjob... he tries to give it his all. that should count. ]
Do you think they'll be fine now? [ daylight looks over to the worried farmer and the tired lamb, wishing meddy was here with him. they would be able to scan them and see how they're doing. ] I hope we got to them in time.
And, um, thanks, by the way. For stepping in and getting the lamb. [ he looks down and grins at emil, winglets fluttering a bit. ] I don't think they would have ever gone to me.
