Who: Mary Crawley and Jon Snow
When: After the power plant outage
Where: Around Draega
What: Influence prompt "Baby Light My Fire"
Warnings: None

Mary hadn't initially dealt with the power outage, but in the wake of so many people being without light or heat, she's offered her Craft services - as mediocre as she thinks they might be. Her greatest worry is setting someone's house on fire and causing an even bigger problem. As such, she's worked on this particular bit of craft and she thinks she has it down. Mary knows that she's a good person for this job. Her jewel is particularly powerful, which means that she'll be able to light more lamps without tiring easily.

Jon Snow has decided to come along with her, perhaps to help or perhaps as a bodyguard. Mary's glad to have him. There's unrest between the Blood and landens after the death of Councilwoman Vera. While Mary has gotten particularly good at defensive shields, she'll still take all the protection that she can get.

They meet outside the Queen's residence and begin their walk into town. "I've been practicing this spell, so I'm hoping that there won't be any mishaps," she tells him.

His ability with his jewel was still shaky, despite the success he managed when he broke the shields at the power plant. Magic itself was still uncertain for him, but seeing others use theirs for good (and not for sacrifice to the Lord of Light). Mary had been in this world longer and it seemed her jewel was more powerful. If he wanted to understand how to use his, it was better to learn from someone that seemed to know more.

Beyond that, it still was not safe in the city and while Mary had her Craft, he didn't want to leave anything to chance, volunteering to follow her on this mission.

"You probably will have more luck than me." He smiled at her. "How many houses did you agree to visit?"

It was still more than he imagined he could manage...if he knew how to even do these spells. He could at least be useful by looking after her as she moved from one home to another. "If it becomes too much, I can try to help."

He nodded, unsure if he was really any help. Craft made his sword rather useless, so long as someone knew how to wield the power. But she seemed to take genuine comfort from his presence and that was rather gratifying. "Aye, this city has become more violent since the attack on the councilwoman. No one should be moving about alone."

It's not a surprise to hear that the world had been violent before he even arrived. Given the rigid hierarchy (so like his world), it made sense that there would be fighting. It seemed to be what people did when they had power and too much time.

"The Landen have been made into monsters by the Blood." They reminded him of the Freefolk in a way, targeted and killed because the real enemy was forgotten. "These sort of grudges aren't easy to mend." And his experience in trying to bridge the gap showed him it couldn't be forced.

"I wonder how long it is until we're targeted as well? Strangers don't fare well in war."

She was right in that. These gestures might mean something to some of the city and at least show their genuine intentions, but Westeros was never kind and he knew that good deeds never went unpunished in some way. This likely wouldn't be enough to stop suspicion, but there would be someone who knew their kindness.

He's surprised by the request, glancing at her curiously. "I'm from Westeros. The North, specifically...that's what it's called. The North." Which likely wasn't very original, but it was straightforward, like most Northerners.

"No, it's nothing like this. We use candles and fire." Which wasn't as convenient as electricity, but he understood it and it was familiar. "We have castles and keeps. Men use swords instead of Craft." And the only magic that he knew existed was wielded by a select few or was present in beings returned to Westeros.

"Was your world like this?" She seemed more comfortable here, but that could be because of similar technology or having been here longer than he was. He'd believe either one.

"I don't think I will get used to it very quickly." There were too many other elements that he had to absorb and accept, magic being the main factor. The electricity was small in comparison to the jewels and the power they supposedly possessed now. Truth be told, he didn't feel very different, but that meant little. "This world is similar to yours?"
