[ it'll be a busy time for zita. promises to keep. meetings to attend. people to meet, whether it's the first time or the third time this month. looking back, she's surprised by all the things she's going to do, but she strengthens her resolve to see all her things through.
if there's one thing she's proud of, it's her ability to keep her word.
that said... she does wonder what the days ahead will have in store for her as she begins to prepare for the day. will she make new friends? learn new things? reaffirm some thoughts she's had since her arrival? what will be in store for her and others in this brave new world they're in?
there's only one way to find out. ]
[ ooc; an all-month log! in the comments are top-levels that pertain to the events that will occur for zita during the month. i will note which are open and which are locked to specific players.
if you would like a your own locked top-level or want to plot something, feel free to hit up my hmd or my plurk over at prognostic! ]

so he just grins. ]
Well, I'll make sure to remember it from now on, Zita.
[ his grin turns into something more contemplative at her question. ]
I'm gonna be honest, if you'd asked me a year ago I would've said they're 100% pretty and 100% guess-work. But... I mean, I've seen stranger things turn out to be true. Like, if prophesies are true, then fortune telling probably is, too.

I can understand someone's doubts with this sort of magic. If they've never met someone who is truly versed in the field of divination, they would have reason to be suspicious.
Anyone can do guesswork and make a stab in the dark. Anyone can cold reason a person in search of and play their their heart's desire against them. [ she begins to fix her cards, resuming her packing away as the cards that depict skeletons and colours are placed back into her deck. ] But for someone to see through the veils? To peer into the winding paths of time and fates and pick up the strongest threads? That is magic.
[ then she hums, the sound light and full of amusement. ] At least where I'm from and, alas, I can't call myself an expert on it yet.

Huh. It actually sounds a bit similar to what a friend of mine can do. I mean, not tell fortunes, but the see through the veils stuff. Only, at home we call it the mist.
[ the thoughtfulness gives way to a smile. ] Well, no one starts out an expert, right?

[ that gets zita's full attention once more, having her, once again, look up from her spread that now only showed the star, the knight of swords, and the tower still standing from the original reading.
she looks intrigued by this, tilting her head to her side to show her interest. ]
Well- It’s good to hear that there are some things are similar in different worlds. Can I ask how the veils- wait, that's not the right word to use. -how the mist works where you are?
If I can ask, of course. I understand if there are some things that cannot be discussed with others.

[ besides, going by what she just said, she's got some kind of magic. that makes her a non-regular-human, which means telling her about the mist should be fine, anyway. ]
The mist is something the gods made, you know, to keep the normal humans from seeing that there are monsters and stuff around. Usually it's only demigods who can see through the mist, meaning we see stuff the way it actually is, and some of us can manipulate it, too. My friend Hazel's really good at it, she can manipulate reality by making people believe they see something else than they do and then it sort of... becomes real. I have no clue how that works, but it's cool as heck.

these mists must be powerful if gods themselves were involved in its creation. and they would have to be too, given that their purpose is to hide the magical community in plain sight amongst ordinary humans. that sounds... very practical, really. much easier than the secrecy and shadows her community lives in.
an idea she'll bring back with her when she returns home, no doubt. ]
For others to able to manipulate it... That's impressive. Very impressive.
Is that skill that many can harness or does it show how talented your friend Hazel is?

[ or so he thinks — he's not heard of any other world where gods are very real, and very present, and where they have kids with humans who act like beacons for attracting monsters of all sorts.
practical it may be, yes, but it also sucks, because apparently the gods care enough to keep the rest of humanity from finding out magic is real, but not enough to keep their own children from being murdered by monsters. so, you know. there's that. ]
Most people can't do that at all. I mean, it depends, I guess the Hecate kids can do it, but it's because they've inherited it. But Hazel's not one of them and she can do it anyway.

[ this brings up another question but- she hesitates a bit. mostly from decorum on her side, as everyone in her world has learned the golden virtue: answer in asides, speak in silence. it's hard for her to openly and publicly question someone about their ability when, in her world, that would have gotten her and her conversational partner in trouble or worse.
she tries to herself that he seems very open to speaking about his world and its elements to her. that's a good sign. that's something that zita keeps that in mind when she finally raises it: ]
Would it be remiss of me to assume that you als have these abilities? Or know individuals like Hazel? You seem- [ hmm. how to phrase it. ] Entwined with all of this. Naturally so.

[ said with equal parts of pride and fondness — hazel is amazing, not least because she's a couple of years younger than the rest of them and still just as capable, if not more so.
leo doesn't seem to mind her questions, grinning as he does something that seems like a mix of a nod and a shrug. ]
I have abilities, just not the same ones as Hazel. It all depends on who one of your parents is. Hazel's dad is Pluto, and her mom was a medium when she was still alive, so I think her talents are like, a mix of the two. But most people I know get their talents just from one parent. Like, my best friend Jason, he's here too, his dad is Jupiter. So he can fly and summon lightning and stuff like that. And my dad's Hephaestus, which means I'm good with mechanical stuff.
