loren's lament
[Let the record show: Emil and any kind of paperwork have never gotten along swimmingly. He barely scraped through school and has a personal vendetta against reading for work, so this? This is honestly his worst idea to date, letting himself get roped into reading for work!!! for this Loren person. What's in it for him, he mumbles mostly to himself, but he's still doing it.

Like, not very well. But he's sitting behind a messy stack of papers, now mumbling mostly to himself about how "sort by severity" is completely subjective? For example, he has no vested interest in the rippling effects of recent upheavals on local businesses, but apparently a lot of people do! Wow! Amazing!

For the third time in an hour, he sighs loudly. Hi, you're here, so please give his woes your attention.]

This is dreadful. Does he really read all of these when no one else is here?

[Who READS??]
shock it 2 me
[The only reason Emil is even trying to help with the livestock problem is because... well. Honestly, it's because the thought of sad farm animals made him deeply upset and he was compelled to come help. What this means for the job, however, is that an overly-emotional tiny dude has become attached to at least one farm animal (like, a cute baby goat, probably) in between complaining about how the animals seem to want to follow him around and chew on various bits of his clothing.

And then, tragedy of tragedies, his favorite baby goat goes missing and he is deeply distraught. Now, at last, he is inspired to take action.

Of course, he's terrible at Craft, so his misguided attempts to do anything resembling an electric fence keep ending with him giving himself a huge dose of static electricity. Is nothing easy?]
stylish yet irresponsible use of stipend
[Or: who blew their whole stipend on clothes instead of budgeting for food? This guy. On the one hand, he can dress like a local on a whim now! That's exciting! The clothes aren't incredibly great, but they're not terrible. He's managing.

He's also incredibly hungry, which is starting to get embarrassing hours and hours after breakfast. Please feed him, or at least humor him when he very abruptly begins a Casual Conversation (hint: he's bad at this one):]

How do people get jobs here? Just wondering.
misc
[hello what do you want to do? i'm probably on board with it. you can send me a pm or pp to [plurk.com profile] jojoveller with ideas or just tag wildly!! dark knights is the only job emil won't do... and for my own sake i'd like to limit job threads to 2 per job so i can handle them!! thank you

feel free to find him being terrible at magic practice or whining about morning training, etc, i am really open.]

What? No! That's not going to work.

[ not to mention that's super dangerous for a human to do: touching his core without having a hazmat or power suit of some sort to absorb the immediate surge of electricity. he's pretty sure that could kill emil. (though daylight is wise enough (for once) to keep that tidbit to himself. no need to make this awkward for them.)

realising that he needs to explain this a bit further, as emil pointed out, he does just that: ]

I'll open my chassis to reveal my core. When that happens you can try to draw the energy out since you have an almost direct access to it. Like what I did. [ he lifts up the ball of energy that's still floating and flickering in his servo. ] That should be easier than making energy from thin air.

[ he hopes it'll be easier. he hates seeing emil keep getting shocked and wants to help him out somehow. ]

[ daylight frowns but relents, not wanting to be pushy towards someone if they made it clear they're not cool with.

(and honestly? a good call if one thinks about it. there's a chance that emil might not be cool with seeing the insides of a human-robot hybrid.) ]

Okay- I'm going to try and charge the generator to see if it'll jumpstart the electrical fence. After that, we can look for missing animals that wandered off.

[ the missing animals - especially the baby ones - is why he signed up to this job the most, to be honest. poor things didn't ask to be targets of predators, animal or human alike.

he's about to do just that when he stops, considering something. ]

Um... Do you want to take a step back or three? If the electricity breaks its form before I can get it in, the charge is going to be pretty nasty. [ hint hint: not your ordinary stingy static, emil. ]

[ several steps sure became several yards away, huh.

after staring at emil-from-a-distance for a bit, daylight, in the end, nods and turns back to the generator with the ball of arc energy at the ready. he feels like he should talk (read: shout) aloud what he's doing, so emil has an idea what's happening. ]

Okay! Going to do it now. [ he takes a deep breath and hopes nothing explodes. ] One… two… three….!

[ daylight opens the generator as he drops the ball of charge into it. the generator shakes and rattles with a lot of uneasy noise, no doubt unused to the boost of electricity its getting, and daylight leans back a bit to avoid getting and nasty arcs and zaps to the face.

then the generator begins to settle and begins to work - made known by the fence turning on. daylight soon lets out a little whoop in joy, his winglets flaring out at the sight of the electricity crackling and the sound of the generator humming. ]

Emil! Emil! Look! I think it’s working! Hey! It's okay now. You won't get shocked or anything! [ ... ] I think!

Thanks!!

[ daylight does nothing to dispel the belief that he is a giant metal puppy. not with the big smile on his face and the way his winglets wiggle behind him at the compliment. if anything - he makes it more prominent with his silly little winglets all but trying to fly off his back now.

he looks at the humming generator with pride one last time, happy that he managed to help contribute in something for the day. progress!

but one can't rest on their laurels forever. daylight is itching to get to a new task, wanting to do something equally important. ]
Alright! That's running now and it should keep running for a long while without us needing to intervene.

Wanna go looking for the missing animals? I've heard some farmers' stock keep vanishing so we've gotta try and sniff them out.

Awesome!

[ daylight goes to grab his (ridiculously) tiny lantern, adjusting the brightness so it can better illuminate their surroundings.

the sun is starting to set and the farm is near some particularly woody areas, necessitating the need of the lanterns and the every important buddy system. who knows what could be creeping in these woods. ]

The farmers said there they last saw their animals over there- [ he points to a location that's a good distance from their current location. ] -so it wouldn't hurt to start from where they're last seen and, um, search for clues?

[ it sounds silly, he knows. best to be safe than sorry however.

given the spree of missing animals this farmer has been facing ever since their fence went down, something about the rate of disappearances has been bothering day... maybe sniffing things out - be it clues or animals - will help them get to the bottom of this mystery. ]

[ and going they do!

it's a long trek but, to daylight, it isn't that long. given his height and long legs, this is a breeze for him. plus he has his experience in scouting and travelling for long periods of time so he knows he can do it.

but at some - okay, many - points during the walk, daylight is going to now and then offer to pick up emil and carry him if he wanted to. just because he can do this walk with these, doesn't mean that others are able to do the same. it's something he needs to keep in mind now that he's around more humans than mehcanoids. ]

Oh... [ he stops in his tracks and notes they're at the entrance of the forest. ] Did you hear that, Emil?

I think I heard- [ let him reset his audials, to be sure that he heard that sound and it wasn't a figment of his imagination.

it wasn't. it's really- ]
-bleating. I think that's a sheep bleating. A baby, maybe...
sunborne: (022. - 🔥 - GOTTA TRY.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2019-03-25 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ daylight simply resonates with concern and sympathy for emil when he sees how he's faring in the walk. it's why he keeps offering to pick him up! it's the least he can do to help his partner.

when that angle doesn't seem to work, he tries to go with the 'always stay positive' route now that there's a lead for them to follow. ]

Yeah! It's a lamb! I'm sure of it.

[ resetting his audials, daylight tries to pinpoint the noise and thinks he hears it coming from... over there!

he quickly walks towards the shrubbery, whistling in hopes of getting the lamb's attention. it sure works, but not in the way daylight would like for it to work - the lamb, though unseen, begins to bleat even more loudly. and it doesn't sound like it's happy. ]

... I don't think they likes me.

[ which is, well, understandable due to his height and appearance and everything. ]

Give me a hand?
sunborne: (037. - 🔥 - UM.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2019-03-28 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ the lamb lets out a sad little sound in response. they're clearly hurt from when they emerge from the shrubbery, limping on one of their legs and looking very disheveled from having gotten lost.

the little animal pauses when they notice daylight is still nearby and they back into the shrubbery once more. not quite retreating but clearly interested in doing that, if they feel threatened enough to do so.

then daylight speaks up, trying to keep his own voice whisper quiet. he can be dense sometimes but he can see the animal is nervous. ]

Are they there, Emil? Need me to flush them out?

[ daylight no- ]
sunborne: (077. - 🔥 - AWE.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2019-04-05 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
You're back! [ and with the lamb! they're safe!

but he soon hears what emil is telling him and he soon sees the extent of injuries the lamb has when he raises the lantern to get a better look at them. from his experience back on the farms of dust tumbles, he can tell the lamb is dehydrated and malnourished and a whole host of other things.

so when emil tells him that they've got to, daylight is going. ]

Sure! I'll go get the farmer! Make sure she's comfortable, okay?

[ daylight is glad his height and size because he's off in a flash, hurrying back to where he thinks he last saw the farmer they were helping out.

by the time emil catches up with them, the harried yet happy farmer is running over with a kit and daylight is leading them along.

the pair seem to be having a conversation of sorts, with daylight explaining what he thinks is wrong with the lamb. the farmer seems surprised by daylight's knowledge but relieved too, since it means they can treat their missing animal more quickly now that they have an idea of what's wrong. ]

Emil! Emil! Are they still awake?
sunborne: (130. - 🔥 - NO OFFENCE.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2019-04-13 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ the farmer takes the lamb from emil and lies them down on the grass, coaxing the animal to calm down as he begins patching up the scrapes and scratches they got during their seperation from the herd.

sensing that the farmer will want some space to themselves, daylight begins to shuffle away. he sliiiides back to emil, trying to stay quiet and discreet as possible.

given that he's a ten feet tall hybrid with a red-and-gold paintjob... he tries to give it his all. that should count. ]

Do you think they'll be fine now? [ daylight looks over to the worried farmer and the tired lamb, wishing meddy was here with him. they would be able to scan them and see how they're doing. ] I hope we got to them in time.

And, um, thanks, by the way. For stepping in and getting the lamb. [ he looks down and grins at emil, winglets fluttering a bit. ] I don't think they would have ever gone to me.
