[ he's not entirely sure how he, of all people, got roped into this.

oh, scratch that, he knows exactly how this happened: because piper has of course mastered the please-won't-you-do-this-for-me look, and because leo still feels guilty for, well, everything that he's utterly unable to refuse her anything.

at least, refuse her something that should, in theory, be very easy.

but here they are, standing near the fateful restaurant, as leo stares at the small, unassuming plant like it's twenty feet tall and about to spit poison at him. ]

... remind me again why it's me here and not your boyfriend who could literally whisk that out of there like nothing? Or Percy who could keep it perfectly watered with like, a snap of his fingers? Is there even a thing such as perfectly watered? Does it need water? [ there's an increasing amount of panic in his voice, this is the worST ]

[inducings]

[ Because you were the first person I could find, and she was crying and tearing up her hands trying to get it.

Come on Leo, [ Piper's voice was low enough that hopefully the Blood female she'd literally just managed to pacify with a cup of tea hopefully wouldn't overhear. Vera's daughter was still sniffling, staring at them over the rim of the teacup with some cross of suspicion and hope. ] Who else would I go to to get something out something out of a hard to reach place? The flower is trapped between cobblestones, we just need to figure out a way to get it out without damaging the roots. Then we can put it in a flower pot and give it to Lady Kiera over there.

[ See? Not that hard. They can totally do this. ]

Oh no, it has roots, [ is what he mutters next, seemingly even more horrified.

it's only then that he seems to notice lady kiera, and he looks from her to piper and back to the lady, and then attempts the sunniest smile he can possibly muster. ]

I mean, we got this! Totally. Your plant is safe-o!

[ maybe????? if he doesn't burn it first by accident ]

[inducings]

[ Lady Kiera mutters something that they should both probably be glad they don't hear into her tea, as she casts a baleful look at Piper. Piper has a feeling that they'd better get moving or else she'd be needing to the young woman down again. ]

I'll dig the plant out if you help me figure out a way to get at it through the stone.

[ Honestly, how it grew through the pavement makes no sense to Piper. ]

[ okay. okay, he's got this. it's just a problem, a vaguely mechanical problem that he can just solve like he does everything else — it's fine.

If I can make something that can cut through the stone, we can just, you know, [ he mimes a sawing motion. ]

[inducings]

That's a good idea. [ She gives Leo an encouraging smile. See? You've got this. ] We'll just keep a nice distance away from the flower and - fix the pavement afterward?

Yeah! I mean, some torn-up pavement is probably the least of their worries right now.

[ you know. with everything going to hell in a handbasket. and all that.

promptly, though, leo just sits down and starts pulling stuff out of what used to be his toolbelt and is now his jewel-powered storage space that exists both everywhere and nowhere, he's not really put his finger on all the quantum stuff — as long as it works, right? ]

I should have some wire here somewhere, hold on...

[inducings]

[ Right? What with everything being... on fire.

Honestly, even if they'd minded, Piper would have wanted them to tear up the road. Lady Kiera had been... really adamant. And Piper knew all about the fear of losing a parent. And Leo...

She's pretty sure he's the right choice to be here, she just hopes that it won't be too much for him if it comes to it. ]

Uh, an impromptu saw?

[ why is that a question. it shouldn't be a question.

leo scratches his cheek. ] I mean, we're going to need something precise enough to cut through the pavement without damaging the plant, so a regular one won't do.

[inducings]
