Are you sure?

[ he doesn't seem too upset by the loss of the music box — if anything, it frees his hands to fiddle with the pieces of metal that are left, the archimedes sphere that he compulsively pulls out from what used to be his magic toolbelt but now seems to be powered by his jewel. ]

I'm just saying, I'm pretty sure cats would murder us all and take over the universe if they could.

I trust anything that can do a blep on command. [He sticks his tongue out as if to prove this, and while his tongue is the same pinkish-red of a normal person's tongue, there's a perceptible cleft at the end to form a tiny fork.] Or maybe I'm just used to wizard's familiars.

[A wizard's familiar, anyway. Man, he misses Frumpkin. And also Caleb. To avoid thinking about that, he turns his full attention to the music box, turning it over in his hands.] Is this part of your scheme to blend in while waiting for something to happen?

That's... not a totally bad point.

[ though, hold on, ] Wizards? Dude, what kind of a place do you come from?

[ it's mostly muttered like he's not really expecting an answer. there are about a thousand questions he could ask, and none that he does. instead, ]

What? No, I was bored. [ and when he's bored, he creates things. ]

[Molly doesn't respond to the muttered question beyond pointing to himself like "what the fuck do you think, kid?" The device is more important, anyway. He was fascinated by Tinkertop's inventions and so he is fascinated by this too.]

You were bored so you- you made this? With what? [That? That is childlike amazement in his eyes, which is impressive considering he has creepy eyes. They may be unholy red voids, but they contain wonder well.]

[ to be fair, he's sort of used to molly by now, enough so that he just. doesn't really think of how he looks different. ]

With... uh, some aluminum plates, and wire, and pipes, and some nails that I repurposed —

[ waving his hand, leo just gestures to different parts of the box, which... doesn't really look like it's been made out of scraps at all. somehow, in some way, all these parts have changed to make something completely different, and functional.

(it's a hephaestus kid thing, and though leo wouldn't describe it as magic... but that's pretty much what it is.) ]

[Molly, who is not a smart person, just nods along with this as if all of that makes perfect sense, and it does. In theory.

But that's not why he's amazed.]

Right. That makes sense... But it's the part where you did it while just sitting here waiting for something to happen and not in a workshop, actively planning to build this that gets me.
