[He reaches up and pleasantly ruffles her hair.] Or you just need someone with beginner's luck to pretend he knows what he's doing. This is so not how I use magic where I'm from. I barely used it at all before this. I made Caleb do it, and now I can do things he can't. Not really sure if I'm into that or nor. I feel like people have expectations of me now.

Never let anyone see you do something well. It means you'll be called upon to do it over and over until you cease breathing. Of course, you could try to make a living of it, if you're clever.

( Sansa tips her head a bit and admires their handiwork again. )

I've never had need of gold before this place. I was the lady of a castle. I wanted for nothing.

Please tell me your mother told you that, because that is a lovely saying, and that would make your mother the most practical human being I have ever heard of- especially for a noble.

[Or her father, he supposes, but having neither, Molly just picked one parent and figured he had a fifty percent shot at being right.] You're so down to earth, despite that, too. In the circus, you want for everything, but you've got family and that makes it bearable. But gods, the second that gold comes rolling in, it's like you just have to have more and more of it. And I don't even spend it on things. I just like having it to throw about to my fancy.

Actually it was my mother, so yes. I wasn't sure what she meant at the time, I was very young, but I understand it quite clearly now. I'm entirely too good at a handful of things and continuously get called upon to do them.

( When Molly mentions she's down to earth, Sansa has to laugh a bit. She used to have her head in the clouds, dreaming of handsome princes and golden knights, but now she has to prepare for war and winter. She's become a Stark in spite of herself. )

Gold can corrupt many men. I saw the power of gold and glory destroy men from the inside out in Westeros and then there are those who are born with it and never understand the meaning of it until they have nothing.

It's complicated, money. I figure the only way to truly be content with it is keep enough to live on and throw the rest at people who need it. People who hoard gold can't be trusted. What're you doing with all of that? It's just sitting there. Psht.

[He scoffs lightly.] The worst part of being stuck in one place and having that kind of a mentality? Everyone remembers you're a good tipper and feels cheated if they find you on a light day.

I suppose so. I've kept the ledgers at Winterfell for the past two years and it seems that most of the incomes in a great house end up going back to the vassals in some way or another. There's repairs to be done, lands to tend. I guess that's giving it to those who need it, in a way.

( Sansa is imagining Molly with a sack of gold flinging coins at children and if this isn't the image he intends, she doesn't want to be corrected. )

And do you make great amounts of gold back home, Molly?

[That is roughly the image he intends. Children, performers, bartenders, shopkeepers... Gold for everyone.

He gives a low whistle, just thinking of the moment Bryce handed them all that money in Alfield.]

Not with the circus, but after that went south and I started doing mercenary work? Ohhh yes. I'd never seen that much money cross my path in one outing. I hadn't even considered that a person could make that much money just killing things that need killing.

An honorable sellsword? I've seen princes with no honor and bastards with more honor than a man could stand. I suppose there must be a few honorable sellswords about.

( Sansa hasn't ever met any but she imagines they must exist, those sellswords with limits on who they'd be contracted by. )
